Snact takes over London this January!

Posted on 10th January 2017

New year often means we try to change things. Whatever resolutions you make, you want to become a better person according to your value system.

We too have some big plans for January: Snact is launching with organic supermarket Planet Organic and retail giant Selfridges, and we will be sampling fruit jerky in health shops across London, including As Nature Intended and Sourced Market, almost every day of the month!

Healthier eating, free from options, and a commitment to environmental responsibility - particularly reducing waste - have all been hailed as major food trends for 2017. A global food and drinks trend report put together by market intelligence agency Mintel has featured our deliciously sustainable snacks to showcase the trend "Waste Not". Mintel predicts that in 2017, the stigma associated with imperfect produce will begin to fade. We could not be happier for that to happen!

January is also increasingly popular as a time to promote healthier lifestyle choices, and keeping them for good: Veganuary, a campaign promoting the switch to a vegan diet, has noted a 600% rise in participants over the last two years, with 23,000 registered participants in 2016. 81% of surveyed participants intended to continue their vegan diets beyond January.

We are very proud to say that fruit jerky passes the food trends test with flying colours: handmade on a family farm in Kent, it is vegan and gluten free as itÔÇÖs made of 100% fresh fruit. We source our produce from surplus to reduce food waste: in 2016, Snact has sold products made from 50 tonnes of saved UK produce. In 2017, we have already doubled our impact, recently acquiring 100 tonnes of surplus apples from Kent which will be made into snacks, and we are expecting to save even more fruit later in the year!

We are also very proud of another important 2016 achievement: we switched to compostable packaging! The innovative film, supplied by TIPA, is the first of its kind in the UK. It is suitable for home composters and behaves similarly to an orange peel, decomposing within 6 months.

In 2017, we hope to find even more ways to reduce waste and have a positive impact. We want to start the new year with a bang and give you, Snactivists, the snacks you are looking for: healthy, convenient, with a positive impact on the environment, and offering you an opportunity to be pro-active about issues you care about: quality of ingredients, local sourcing, reducing food waste and packaging waste.

If you haven't tried fruit jerky yet, come along to one of our samplings at As Nature Intended, Planet Organic, and Sourced Market branches across London - check our social media for details. Additionally, fruit jerky is on offer at Ocado (25% off single packs, 20% off multipacks) and on a 3 for 2 offer at As Nature Intended throughout January, so if you're already a fan, stock up! And if you want to help us increase our impact even more, spread the word among your friends: convert them into Snactivists, too!

Let's hope for a deliciously sustainable 2017 čśőčŹÄčÄë
